Lithgow is located on the western edge of the Blue Mountains, a short 2 ½ -hour drive from Sydney’s CBD and 40 minutes from Bathurst. The Local Government Area covers an area of approximately 4,551km2, extending from Capertee and Wolgan Valley in the north, Little Hartley in the east, Hampton-Tarana in the south and meadow Flat in the west. The majority of the resident population is located in the town of Lithgow followed by Portland and Wallerawang. These two towns are located north west of Lithgow, with Wallerawang being 13km away and Portland 24km.
According to the 2006 Census, there were 19,756 people resident within the region.
Lithgow City has consolidated its position as a regional centre attracting a range of retail, commercial, industrial, educational and professional services serving Lithgow and its environs and a potential catchment of over 230, 000 incorporating the Blue Mountains and Central Western Sydney residents.

$7000 relocation grant opportunity
NSW Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner and Treasurer Mike Baird have announced a $7000 grant to assist applicants relocating from their metropolitan home to an established home in regional areas such as Lithgow.
The Regional Relocation (Home Buyers Grant) Act 2011 will operate for four years, commencing 1 July 2011. The scheme will provide applicants with a one-off payment of $7,000 to assist them with the cost of relocating from their metropolitan home to a regional home.
The metropolitan area means the local government areas of the Sydney metropolitan area, Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Gosford, Wyong, Wollondilly, Wollongong and Newcastle.
The regional areas are participating local government areas which are located outside of the metropolitan area.
